CINEMATOGRAPHER
(b. Indore, Madhya Pradesh) has always been drawn to the quiet power of images — the way they can hold thousands of feelings in a single frame, and the search for meaning that lives inside them. For him, the best part of storytelling is the opportunity to explore the contrast between the rough and the gentle sides of human nature. His work often revolves around tender relationships that lack a clear vocabulary for emotion, the moments where people hide behind status or hardened façades, and the fragile ways we try to reach one another. He is less interested in the light that is already over-highlighted, and more drawn to what sits in the shadow. Lakhan is detail-oriented yet never loses sight of the larger emotional picture. He sees the camera as more than a technical tool — it is a way to preserve atmosphere, sensory detail, and the things that would otherwise vanish in everyday life. A good collaboration, for him, is built on shared sensitivity, clear communication, and mutual trust. He began photographing stories at fourteen. At twenty-two, he worked on Delhi Crime Season 1 as 2nd unit and B-camera operator, also shooting the opening titles — a project that changed the course of his path and led him to create the independent Netflix series The Hunt for Veerappan. His recent film Phoolan, his sixth collaboration with director Richie Mehta, screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, where he worked as 2nd Unit DP and camera operator. In 2025 he was selected for the ASC International Mentorship Program and received several awards in Indian advertising. He continues to work with filmmakers who share his interest in the unnoticed and the human.
